Sourdough Starter
Ingredients
- 1 cup all-purpose flour πΎ
- 1 cup water (room temperature) π§
- 1 tablespoon sugar or honey π―
- A clean glass jar with a lid π₯«
How to Prepare
- In your clean glass jar, combine 1 cup of all-purpose flour and 1 cup of room temperature water. Mix well until there are no dry flour clumps. π₯
- Add 1 tablespoon of sugar or honey to the mixture. This will help feed the wild yeast. Stir until fully dissolved. π―
- Cover the jar loosely with the lid or a clean cloth. This allows air to flow while keeping dust out. π¬οΈ
- Place the jar in a warm spot (around 70-75Β°F) for 24 hours. π
- After 24 hours, check for bubbles. If you see some, itβs a good sign! If not, give it another day. β³
- Discard half of the mixture (about 1 cup) and add another 1 cup of flour and 1 cup of water. Mix well. Repeat this feeding process every 24 hours for about 5-7 days. π
- Your starter is ready when it doubles in size within 4-6 hours after feeding and has a pleasant, tangy smell. π
Now you have a lively sourdough starter to use in your favorite recipes! Happy baking! πβ€οΈ”
