A simple and reliable sourdough starter recipe:

Basic Sourdough Starter

Ingredients:

60g (½ cup) unbleached all-purpose or whole wheat flour

60g (¼ cup) filtered or purified water (room temp)

Instructions:

  1. Mix flour and water in a clean jar until smooth. Cover loosely.
  2. Let sit at room temp (~70-75°F) for 24 hours.
  3. Days 2-7: Discard half and feed with 60g flour + 60g water daily.
  4. By day 7-10, it should double in size with bubbles and a tangy smell—ready to use!

If your home is cold, keep it in a warm spot like an oven with the light on.
